Fife Flyers game preview

This Sunday sees the Fife Flyers, sponsored by Arnold Clark Mercedes-Benz, play their first home game of the 2019/20 Elite Ice Hockey League season as they host Tim Wallace's Nottingham Panthers at Fife Ice Arena.

Nottingham Panthers travel to Kirkcaldy to complete a Scottish double header, having played in Dundee on the Saturday night.

Last weekend Flyers went down 3-2 to Glasgow Clan at home before shutting out the Dundee Stars to secure a 2-0 away win.

Speaking ahead of this weekend's games head coach Todd Dutiaume said "It has been nice having the entire team together for the whole week, we really missed that in pre-season.

"Going into Coventry (on Saturday) is always difficult, this weekend a lot of our guys have the opportunity to face a former team-mate [Evan Bloodoff], so I am sure the competition levels will be raised even higher. Coventry look like a very good, competitive club, and with a smaller ice surface games in that building can be fast moving, so we will have to be ready to move at a quicker pace.

"We have high expectations to perform all the time, the home opener against Glasgow last week we looked out of sorts that night, and for whatever reasons we didn't bury our chances early and that made it difficult for ourselves.

"We will be looking for a much better performance at home this Sunday against Nottingham. We will really need it as this Nottingham team look like they counter very quickly and have a tremendous amount of skill on that team. Nottingham always produce a very competitive club so we will need to be on our best, but we are looking forward to getting a home win under our belts."

The full Flyers squad have been together for just over a week now and Dutiaume said that morale is equally as important on the ice as it is off the ice. "We do a lot of team building things together with the guys, as well as make sure that they all settle into their places and are happy. The other day we took the opportunity to do play hickory golf, it is these types of things that get these guys closer as a group and want to play for each other."

Grab your McDonald's chuck-a-puck from sellers on game night to be in with a chance of winning £250, or McDonald's vouchers on both Saturday and Sunday.

Pucks are available for just £1 and the competition takes place between periods 2 and 3!
