Kassel Huskies preseasonHerlev Eagles - Preseason

The Fife Flyers sponsored by Arnold Clark Mercedes-Benz are pleased to announce two weekends worth of pre-season challenge games against German DEL2 side EC Kassel Huskies, and Danish Metal Ligaen side Herlev Eagles at Fife Ice Arena.

The doubler headers mean that the Flyers will play an unprecedented 6 preseason games including the Scottish Elite Cup which takes place the weekend of the 9th and 10th of September at Murrayfield Ice Rink.

The Flyers will host German side Kassel Huskies at Fife Ice Arena on the weekend of Saturday 26th, (face-off 7:15pm) and Sunday 27th August (face-off 6:30pm).

The following weekend, the Herlev Eagles will travel to Fife in the second weekend of preseason fixtures. The Flyers will host the Eagles on Saturday 2nd (face-off 7:15pm) and Sunday 3rd  of September (face-off 6:30pm).

The EC Kassel Huskies were formed originally in 1977, and play their home games out Eissporthalle Kassel. Last season Kassel finished 3rd in the DEL2 and reached the semi-finals of the play-offs. Flyers fans will see a familiar face in the Huskies line-up as former Braehead Clan forward Stefan Della Rovere has signed with the Huskies.

The Huskies all time current leading point scorer, and captain, Manuel Klinge will travel with his side, Klinge has iced in 580 games scoring 295 goals and 348 assists.

The Herlev Eagles were formed originally in 1993, and play their home games out of DFDS Seaways Arena in Copenhagen.

Flyers latest recruit, Liam Heelis will be reunited with a couple of  his former Acadia University teammates as the Herlev Eagles netminder Evan Mosher and forward Brett Thompson spent 3 seasons together.

Speaking about the Flyers preseason schedule, assistant coach Jeff Hutchins said "This is a good opportunity for our fan base to see professional clubs outside of our league. Both clubs have had domestic successes and it should be a good test for us before we start the regular season.

"This years pre-season schedule is a proper pre-season, playing 6 games before we enter league competition is something we haven’t done in the Elite League era. This is something that Todd and I had talked about as a change we wanted to implement for the start of this season. This will also give us a chance to look at some of the young local guys as well.

"The coaching staff would like to thank the ownership and the rink staff for accommodating this request and to the Belfast Giants for agreeing to move our scheduled cup game to a later date in order for these games to be possible."

Our Challenge Cup match with the Belfast Giants due to be played on Sunday 3rd September will now be played on Saturday 4th November as a dual Challenge Cup/League game.

Ticket prices for both pre-season games at Fife Ice Arena will be announced soon.
