Flyers defeat Nottingham Panthers in overtime

The FiFab Fife Flyers welcomed Nottingham Panthers on Sunday night to wrap up a Fife home double header weekend having fallen to a 5-4 OT defeat on Saturday against Edinburgh Capitals. Going into Sunday's fixture Flyers edged this season's head to head series with 2 wins to Nottingham's 1 as the sides met in their final regular season meeting.

It was Flyers who drew first blood after 41 seconds captain Ryan Dingle pounced early to score the opening goal of the game and put Flyers in an early lead. Flyers continued to dominate the opening period and looked to continue to test Miika Wiikman in the Nottingham Panthers net.

Despite dominating the opening period it was Nottingham who scored the 2nd goal of the game when David Clarke tied the game up when he found space in the Flyers defensive zone and fired the puck beyond Shane Owen at 10:54. The score remained the same as the teams headed to the dressing room.

Action in the 2nd period saw a more even battle as both teams pressed for the go ahead goal. Nottingham had the better of the chances in the first half of the 2nd period and took the lead when Jeff Brown fired in a pass from Brian McGrattan beyond Shane Owen to make it 2-1 to the Panthers at 32:19.

Despite going behind it was Flyers who looked the more dangerous side out of the 2 teams as the period clock ran down, however they were unable to find a way passed Miika Wiikman in the Nottingham net.

A dominant 3rd period from Fife saw them get themselves back in the game with just over 2 minutes to go when Chase Schaber made it 2-3 at 57:38. The game wasn't over just yet, and with Shane Owen on the bench Bryan Cameron tied the game up at 59:55 to take the game into overtime.

Following on from their impressive 3rd period display, Fife controlled overtime and it was Mathew Sisca who was the hero as he sealed the win at 62:57.
