Former Flyer, Marc McAndrew Thomas Muir

After the recent game against Aberdeen Lynx I got the chance to speak to the former Flyer about life in the Granite City and of playing for the Lynx. Flyers had just won 15-0 in a fairly low-key game with Lynx having a few late call-offs for the game leaving them with a bare 2 lines and a Goalie.

I began by asking Marc how he was finding the differences between his Flyers days and with Lynx. He told me that the main differences were the lack of numbers within the team and the fact that he was getting far more ice time through that factor alone. Lynx were prone to players calling off and maybe just not fancying the game that lay ahead.

Marc moved to Aberdeen to begin a new job in the oil related industry, and he enjoys this very much. How many of us can say that and mean it?

His first hockey memory was of playing for Fife Tomahawks and being coached by Chic Cottrell. Chic was the assistant coach to Mark Morrison for many years.

I asked Marc about his hockey heroes and he wanted it made very clear that after John Haig it had to be Eric Lindros. Marc’s nickname is “Big E”.

His hopes for the rest of the season are to help Lynx develop and become more competitive through time.

He lists his greatest personal achievement in hockey was when he Captained Scotland East Under 15’s and played for GB in an IIHF Under 19’s tournament a few years ago. He remembers his time as a Flyer with pride and hopes to be back in the Gold and Blue in the future.
