21: Mikey Haston |
I got the chance to catch up with Mikey Haston during last week’s game against Stars. Mikey was rested as he returns after a minor knee knock. We were able to speak sitting in the open spaces of the Away Fans as Aberdeen only brought a very few with them. Mikey was open in his answers and here they are.
AGE:
19
PREFERRED NUMBER:
That would be 34.
FIRST HOCKEY MEMORIES:
I was about 7 and came to a game here in Kirkcaldy. Flyers beat Edinburgh in a sell-out I think, the place was packed. I played Roller Hockey first for Burntisland Bullets (Great Name) and I was always a goalie. Then I took up Ice Hockey at about 13 and played with the Under 16’s along with Chad Reekie, Jamie Wilson, Adam Walker (now at Manchester Phoenix) and Scott MacKenzie, We didn’t lose a game that season.
HOCKEY HEROES:
Martin Brodeur I would say and I’ve even got a Brodeur helmet. The New Jersey Devils would be my NHL team.
WHAT ARE YOUR VIEWS ON THE SNL THIS YEAR?
Hard to say, there are still some much weaker teams. The Crossover games make it more interesting but we’re (Flyers) are fitter than other sides.
HAVE YOU SEEN ANY ELITE GAMES?
Only the last period of Edinburgh games when we’re playing over there.
ZERO TOLERANCE?
It should make the game better but it will take time I suppose.
BEST INDIVIDUAL HOCKEY MOMENT?
Beating Edinburgh in the Under 19’s Scottish Cup Final winning 2-0 and getting Man of the Match. I enjoyed it when Scott Hay was here. He would often come off and I’d get ice time.
INTERESTS OUTSIDE HOCKEY:
Play some golf and 5 a side football.
MUSIC/FILM:
My favourite band is Oasis and I enjoyed going to see Borat recently.
GAME DAYS ANY SUPERSTITIONS?
None at all really. I don’t play cards in the bus I can’t play. I enjoy Training even although it’s very late at night.
AMBITIONS THIS YEAR?
To get into the team and help the team.
TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOURSELF:
I’m a Window Fitter and think that sometimes I’m not the easiest and I’m not the hardest to get along with.
I certainly found Mikey a decent lad and a pleasure to speak to.
