 Chris Wands

Fife Flyers are delighted to confirm that 2016/17 British Player of the Year Chris Wands will be back with the Flyers for a 14th season.

Kirkcaldy born defenceman Wands, has been a multi award winner at the Flyers end of season awards since making the step up to the Elite Ice Hockey League back in 2011.

Defenceman Wands made his Flyers debut under Mark Morrison in the British National League in 2004 played with the Flyers and has been a regular in the side since the 2005, playing in the SNL/NPL from 2005 until 2011, and in then making the step up to the EIHL 2011.

In his time playing under Todd Dutiaume, Wands has iced in 300 EIHL games scoring 9 goals and 15 assists.

The 29-year-old defenceman had the following to say on re-signing for the Kirkcaldy based club

Chris Wands

"I'm really looking forward to being back for my 14th season. It has been great to be part of this club, one I grew up watching for so many years now. I'm looking forward to getting back to work and meeting the guys that are coming in.

"I have seen a lot of changes in the organisation over the years from coming out of the BNL and dropping down to the SNL. The biggest change was the jump back up to the top flight. Since we have joined the EIHL I think the team has improved year after year and it's been great to have been part of it."

Last season Wands was crowned Fife Flyers British Player of the Year after an impressive campaign for the Flyers defence. "Last year I felt I had a good season, this year I'm looking to continue the form, keep working hard and improving, obviously as well as helping the team out in any way I can."

"I think the new conferences will work out well. All the Scottish teams have good rivalries now so it will make for an interesting season. It's good to see Guildford and Milton Keynes join the league I think it's a good thing, they have always had good teams in the past and I don't expect this year to be any different. "

Assistant coach Jeff Hutchins added "Chris had a very solid year for our club. He was a model professional, he never complained about his ice time and when he got his opportunity he embraced it.

"He did a good job keeping things simple and it showed, our confidence grew in playing him regularly and with more opportunities he upped his game and provided a couple of memorable moments for the organisation and fans."

"We are excited to get Chris back into training camp to try and keep improving his game."
