Denis KadicFife Flyers new import Denis Kadic this week took time out to talk about life in the Rapid Solicitors Elite Ice Hockey League, and life in Fife so far. Kadic joined Fife after time in the Slovenian league with HK Maribor where he played 23 games and registered 36 points (10 goals and 26 assists). Kadic holds some impressive stats having registered 79 points in 50 games in the Slohokej during 2 spells with HK Maribor.

So Denis, how did the move to Fife come about?

Well my agent contacted me and he said he had been approached by a team EIHL. He told me what the conditions of contract were and I didnt think a lot because that it good chance for me to play in a higher level of hockey so I was more than happy to sign!

How are you finding life in the Elite league?

So far I really like it here. Everything is great, every match has been well attended, and the people like hockey here, so it’s really a pleasure to play for Flyers.

What are the main differences between playing in mainland Europe and in the Elite league in Fife?

I would say that the main difference is the physical style that is played in Elite league because there is a lot of imports from Canada and USA. You just have to get used to it and the game is played faster.

Has joining the Elite league been something you have considered before/been approached about before?

At the start off the season my agent told me about some chances for me to go and play in EIHL or EPIHL but in the end it didn’t worked out so I stayed home and started the season with Maribor. I had an agreement with General Manager of Maribor that if I got some offers from teams abroad I could go, so in the end it worked well for me.

You are obviously close friends with Coventry's Matic Kralj, so what did you know about the Elite league before you came over?

Yeah I have known Matic now for about 15 years. He was the first person I contacted and asked him about the EIHL and the team and he just told me great things about the Flyers organisation, so like I said didn’t need to think about signing a contract!

Do you have any personal aims/objectives for this season?

I just want to play my best game and help the team to make the play-offs. That’s my main goal to help the team, everything else is going to come, cause if the team is playing good then the individuals are playing good too!

Which of your new team mates have you bonded with most?

I been here for a short time so I like all of my team mates, every one of them has been really nice to me.

Are there any teams you are looking forward to playing against?

I am looking forward to every game because this is new for me but maybe Edinburgh :).

(Denis obviosuly already understand the rivalry between Fife and Edinburgh).

Which of the Elite sides you have faced has impressed you most this season?

So far the only team who impressed me is Fife Flyers because we are playing really well and I think if we keep on playing like we are we going to make the play-offs!

What does a typical day for an 'import' look like?

Nothing special. Watch some movies, go to practise, gym, go around the town, visit some restaurants but I’m trying to cook at home but I’m not the best at that but getting better!

How have you found Fife/Scotland? Have you had much opportunities to go sightseeing, golf, travel, etc?

Well I find Scotland (not England) ha-ha and the town as a really nice place. The people are great except the accent is a bit hard to understand but I’m getting there. The guys told me that there is a lot to see, so when I’m going to have the chance, I’m going to go around. I’m not really a good golf player I have only played like 5 times in my life so I’m still the at the low level of my golfing!
