Danny Stewart

Fife Flyers are delighted to confirm that Danny Stewart has accepted the role of club Captain with immediate effect.

Coach, Todd Dutiaume, confirmed that after some heart felt discussions with Jamie Wilson, he has reluctantly accepted Jamie’s decision to step back from the role of Captain, so he can fully focus on playing for the club.

“This was a difficult decision for both of us. Jamie has been my club captain for some time now, leading the team to a lot of trophies over the years, and has been a great ambassador for Fife Flyers. However, with the step up to the Elite League, the role of Captain proved to be a bigger job, and Jamie really wants to focus on his playing game, so I reluctantly accepted his decision. After speaking to Matt [Siddall], we knew we had a ready made replacement in Danny Stewart, and he was delighted to accept this role, and becomes the organisations new Captain with immediate effect. This will be a very easy transition for Danny, he is a natural leader in the locker room, and with his experience and maturity, will lead this club by example”

“This is a very positive step for the club”, said Todd, and he confirmed that Jamie will remain involved with the leadership team within the organisation.

Danny was delighted to accept the role of club Captain, and is very much looking forward to the challenges ahead. “First off, I would just like to say what an honour it is to receive this appointment. Being names as Captain of a storied franchise like the Fife Flyers, is not only an honour, but a privilege as well. I hope to lead both on and off the ice in the best way I can, and represent the club in a professional manner. I would also like to take this opportunity to praise Jamie Wilson for the job he has done throughout the years, and indeed during this season. He is a class guy, and a true professional. Jamie has had to juggle making the step up to the Elite League, whilst also playing in an unfamiliar position, and he has unselfishly made a decision that he felt would benefit the club, which just shows his loyalty to the Fife Flyers, and the kind of guy he really is. He is so well respected by his peers, and will remain a huge personality in the dressing room and leader on this team. As for the other changes by the club this week, I hope that the fans see that although it has taken some time, the club is starting to move in the right direction. Although results have been tough to come by, the guys in the dressing room have been giving it our all, and we plead with the fans to come out and support us this weekend as we try to get our first league win in a huge clash with the Hull Stingrays. Seeing that support and hearing the fans, becomes a 6 th player on the ice, and hopefully we can get the old barn rocking”

Todd is also thrilled to welcome to the Flyers this week, Toms Hartmanis. “To get a player of Toms ability is another piece of the puzzle that is slowly coming together, and he will add a lot of speed and excitement to our team. We talked to a few folks about Toms, and had glowing reports from Danny, so it was a no brainer really to bring Toms in, once we were aware of his availability”

“This has been a good week for the hockey club. With the addition of Toms Hartmanis to the playing staff, the commercial appointments, and now these changes within the management structure, we are in a very good place to move the organisation forward. We will also continue our search in the coming days as we look to bring 1 or 2 more players in to strengthen our defensive unit”
