Following the weekends games with Belfast Giants and Sheffield Steelers, the Flyers are nursing some injuries, the most notable being that of starting netminder Garrett Zemlak.
Garrett was injured during the first period of Saturday's game with Belfast Giants at Fife Ice Arena, after an on-ice collision with Giants number 47, Adam Keefe. Player/coach Todd Dutiaume has confirmed that after reviewing of the game, he may consider asking the league to look at the incident.
"Garrett took a hard knock on Saturday and he is still a little groggy from it at the moment. We are keeping a close eye on him and we are not going to push his recovery, the most important thing is making sure that his recovery does not have a detrimental effect on his health. We will be taking his injury one day at a time and we will see how he progresses. I haven't had a chance to look back at the game footage yet but when we get the opportunity we will have a look to see if there was anything untoward about the incident with Garrett and we will take action if we need to."
Another player who sat out this weekend was defenceman Tommy Muir. Tommy has been nursing a wrist injury for the past week and Dutiaume confirmed that Tommy needed to take some time out to give the injury a chance to heal. "Tommy has been burning the candle at both ends this season, he works really hard full time, trains hard on and off the ice and his injury has just not had a chance to heal. Tommy is the kind of guy that optimizes the hard working player this team needs, he gives his all every time he steps out on to that ice, so we need him to be fully fit and healthy."
The previous weekend in Hull, Kyle Horne was another casualty after having to leave the game due to an on-ice incident, however Dutiaume has confirmed that Kyle made a quick recovery and couldn't wait to get back out on the ice against Belfast. "Kyle is a tough guy and has played this game for ages, he is a tough and committed player and he is starting to get in to better shape as our early season progresses, after the knock last weekend he has recovered well and is fine."
