Fife Flyers vs Cardiff Devils

Fife Flyers hosted Cardiff Devils on Saturday evening in Elite Ice Hockey League action for the first time this season at Fife Ice Arena looking to bounce back from Friday's 5-3 Challenge Cup loss to Braehead.

A frustrating opening period saw Flyers heavily outshoot Cardiff by 12 shots to 5 but unable to find a way past an inform Ben Bowns in the Cardiff goal. Flyers were given an early powerplay opportunity as Joey Haddad was sent to the penalty box for elbows but Flyers were unable to take advantage. Flyers found themselves on the powerplay on 2 more occasions during the first period but could not get that much needed goal. 

As the 1st period was drawing to an end David Brown found himself being impeded by a Cardiff player in his crease but as the whistle blew it was Brown who was assessed a 2 minute roughing penalty at 19:48 to give Cardiff a man advantage. On the subsequent powerplay Cardiff put the puck in the net with the clock showing 0:00 but after consulting with the timekeepers referee Toby Craig allowed the goal to stand. 

It was more of the same in the second period as Flyers were unable to take advantage as they applied the pressure on Cardiff. It took a while for the next goal to come but it did at 31:43 but not for Fife, as Guillaume Doucet extended Cardiff's lead to 2-0.

Shortly after Cardiff's 2nd goal, Flyers did get their 1st goal of the evening after a great move from Danny Stewart found Michael Dorr at the back post of Bowns' net making it it Flyers 1 Devils 2 at the end of 2nd period.

Another frustrating 3rd period followed for Fife as they continued to have the better number of scoring chances but were unable to find a way past Ben Bowns in the Cardiff goal. The only goal of the 3rd period coming at 49:08 when Tomas Kurka sealed a 3-1 victory for the Cardiff Devils.
