Fife Flyers vs Sheffield Steelers

The final regular season weekend saw Belfast Giants and Braehead Clan travel to the Fife Ice Arena with well over 5000 fans packing themselves inside the 'auld barn' to watch both games.

Following on from the weekend's results Flyers will now play the Rapid Solicitors Elite Ice Hockey League champions, Sheffield Steelers, in the playoff quarter final tie.

Associate coach Danny Stewart is positive going in to this weekend's double header with Sheffield, saying he saw enough over the weekend that gives him confidence that the team can challenge Sheffield over the 2 game tie.

"Although we failed to pick up points I felt there was a lot of positives this weekend. We played two very good teams and I thought we competed and played well for 5 periods. Unfortunately the one period we took off cost us a hockey game on Saturday night.

"The game against Braehead was a battle. The guys laid it all out for 3 periods and I felt we deserved better.

"The difference in the hockey game was they were able to capitalise on a our mistakes and we did not on theirs.

"We were physical, we competed, stayed focus for 60 and generated many chances. That is all you can ask from your guys and if we play with that same mentality and work rate, limit the individual mistakes, then I am confident we can challenge this Sheffield club."
