The Elite Ice Hockey League has implemented the Department of Player Safety for the upcoming season on a trial basis.

It will monitor plays in all games and flag plays that warrant review and potential discipline.

The Department of Player Safety and the Elite League will take all steps necessary to ensure a consistent standard of rule enforcement and application of discipline throughout the season.

The main aim of the Department of Player Safety is to look after the players' safety whilst participating in all Elite Ice Hockey League games.

To help players with the consistency of what hits are illegal or not, teams will be advised - by video when appropriate - what hits are hard but clean and therefore legal, as well as videos showing hits that are deemed illegal for any number of infractions.

If a play warrants a suspension, the Department of Player Safety will aim to release a video that addresses the play at fault, addresses why the play was deemed illegal and then explain in detail why the play went wrong.

The Department of Player Safety will announce how many games a player will be suspended for and explain why the decision was taken.
