Fife Flyers 2018 Gardiner Conference champions

Fife Flyers, sponsored by Arnold Clark Mercedes-Benz, clinched their first Gardiner Conference title as they sealed the season's first silverware following a 7-6 overtime win over the Dundee Stars in Dundee on Sunday night.

Flyers secured their first silverware since returning to top flight hockey following a hugely impressive 2017/18 season so far.

This weekend Flyers saw themselves with a second consecutive 3 game weekend, and it got underway with the best possible start thanks to a 6-3 win in Glasgow over their West Coast rivals the Braehead Clan thanks to goals from Shayne Stockton, Liam Heelis, Chase Schaber, Peter LeBlanc, Carlo Finucci and an empty net goal from Danick Gauthier, with Flyers taking the season series to 7 wins from 8 games.

Flyers secured a huge 7-0 victory on Saturday night against the Dundee Stars with Chase Schaber scoring a hattrick, Danick Gauthier scoring a pair with Carlo Finucci and Liam Heelis also getting on the scoresheet.

With back to back wins on Friday and Saturday Flyers headed to Dundee on Sunday needing just one point to secure the Gardiner Conference.

Flyers were in control for the opening two periods, however with Dundee piling on the pressure and taking a 6-5 lead with 46 seconds remaining in the third period it looked like the team would have to wait until thet could get their hands on the trophy.

With 16 seconds remaining Charlie Mosey tied the game giving Todd Dutiaume's side the point they needed to secure the Gardiner Conference title.

Dan Correale's overtime winner secured a 7-6 win for the Flyers as well as a 6 point weekend.
