Ian Young

Fife Flyers, sponsored by Arnold Clark Mercedes-Benz, are delighted to confirm the addition of Canadian defenceman Ian Young for the 2017/18 Elite Ice Hockey League season.

Young, 25, is entering his 3rd professional season. The 6-foot-1, 194-pound native of Red Deer, Alberta last season iced with Elmira Jackals in the ECHL scoring 3 goals and 8 assists across 44 games.

Prior to the 2016/17 season Young began his professional career with Mississippi Riverkings in the SPHL icing in 23 games and registering 11 assists. In January 2016 Young was called up to the ECHL with Elmira Jackals, going on to ice in 29 games scoring 3 goals and 6 assists.

Young spent his 4 collegiate years playing in the NCAA with Colorado College Tigers where he iced in 114 games scoring 4 goals and 15 assists, registering 52 penalty minutes.

Speaking after signing to join Fife for the 2017/18 season Young said "I'm thankful and excited for the opportunity to play in Fife. I've heard great things about the organisation, the league, and the Fife fans. I can't wait to get over and get started."

Assistant coach Jeff Hutchins added "Ian is a smooth skating, puck moving defenseman.

"Todd and I want defencemen that can get back quickly and transition the puck into the forwards hands. Ian works hard on the defensive side of the puck and makes it tough for opposing forwards.

"He has had a solid start to his professional career in North America and we are happy that he has chosen Fife for his first taste of Europe. We are looking forward to getting Ian in."
