Fife Flyers, sponsored by Arnold Clark Mercedes-Benz, are delighted to confirm that highly rated local duo Chad Smith and Reece Cochrane have signed for the 2017/18 season.

Forward Smith joined the Flyers at the end of the 2016/17 Elite Ice Hockey League season and will once again join up for the new season.

Joining Smith in the 2017/18 line up is young defenceman Reece Cochrane. Last season Cochrane iced with the Fife Flames and Fife Falcons making 22 appearances whilst scoring 28 goals and 31 assists.

A teammate of Cochrane, Chad Smith iced with Kirkcaldy Kestrels icing in 17 games, scoring 13 goals and 11 assists. Smith also iced with Fife Falcons last season making 10 appearances tallying 20 goals and 22 assists.

Cochrane will combine his Flyers duties with that of the Kirkcaldy Kestrels and Fife Falcons, whilst Smith will combine his full time duties with Fife alongside Kirkcaldy Kestrels.

Smith, 18, said the following "I'm really excited to sign for the Flyers this season. I feel I have a lot to prove and I am excited to do exactly that this season."

Cochrane, 16, added "I'm excited to be given the opportunity to be part of the Flyers organisation and looking forward to training full time.

"My aim is to develop my game to a level where I can start pushing to be involved in match day squads during the upcoming season."

After confirming the news assistant coach Jeff Hutchins said the following about the youngsters. "Chad will continue his development with us by training with us.

"There is a lot to work with in his game, he is a strong skater, has good hands and hockey IQ.

"He obviously needs to get bigger, stronger and faster in the coming seasons in order to compete with men.  He will be on fitness programs that will address his needs.

"Much like Chad Smith, Reece needs to get stronger and work on his foot speed.

"His skating ability is his biggest strength, he has had a half year training with us and we expect that he will be a regular feature at our training sessions this session.

"Reece has the potential to be a very reliable British defenceman in the coming years, we are very excited at the prospects for him."
