Flyers Forward Fleming Forced to Retire

Gavin Fleming Flyers Forward Gavin Fleming has had to retire from playing hockey with imediate effect. Gavin has suffered a career ending knee injury and doctors have advised him that he needs to stop playing now if he want to avoid knee replacement in the next few years. Gavin was an excellent 2 way player and true gentleman of the sport who chipped in with some big goals and play's at times, he was a great guy to have in your team/dressing room and is a very unselfish player and person. Those who know him will know how gutted he is that he can't play anymore.

 

NPL Season Opener this Saturday!

NPLFlyers begin their Northern League campaign at home to Whitley Bay Warriors on Saturday having made a poor start to the season in their Autumn Cup defence. However Flyers coach Todd Dutiaume has called on his players to raise their game after back-to-back defeats to Dundee Stars. False Start for Flyers in Opening Defeat

Flyers logo Flyers are bad losers, according to player-coach Todd Dutiaume. And the Canadian believes that his players loath towards losing could be the key to another successful season. Flyers were beaten in the opening match of the season, going down 2-1 at home to Dundee Stars in Saturday's Autumn Cup opener. Afterwards Dutiaume said: "The guys are quite hard on themselves. I feel sorry for them because I set the bar high and they take defeat personally. Guys are getting upset that we're losing, but we lost the first game last season and still had a great year." Flyers Complete Signings

Flyers logo Flyers will set the standard for the rest to follow. That's the target as a new season of ice hockey faces off this weekend with the launch of the Autumn Cup. Flyers open with at home to Dundee Stars on Saturday night and will include new signing Iain Beattie on the bench. The Edinburgh skater returns after taking time out of the sport, and player-coach Todd Dutiaume is glad to have him back on board. ''He's got a good work ethic and he's good to have in the room,'' he said. Dutiaume is looking to at least match last season's achievements before setting the bar higher. Flyers Captain Out Until Christmas

Jamie WilsonFlyers' preparations for the new season have been rocked by the news they could be without their captain until Christmas. Jamie Wilson has undergone knee surgery to correct a long-standing problem and is expected to be sidelined for the first half of the campaign. Player-coach Todd Dutiaume admitted it is a big blow as his team gears up for the return to action in this weekend's pre-season tournament at Fife Ice Arena. "It's very frustrating for us and for Jamie because he's dying to be out on the ice," he said.
