Flyers 1st Trophy of Season
Flyers won a league title in Whitley Bay on Sunday — despite playing 100 miles away and in a different competition. Dundee Stars failure to beat Whitley Warriors meant that Fife can no longer be caught at the top of the Northern League, prompting celebrations on the team bus as Flyers travelled home from a Scottish Premier Hockey League victory in Dumfries. Player-coach Todd Dutiaume hailed the achievement, but confessed that he wanted his team to clinch its first silverware of the season in style with a win in Blackburn on Saturday. Fife Flyers have claimed their first piece of silverware of the 2007/08 season after Dundee Stars 4-3 lose to Whitley Warriors on Sunday. Dundee's lose means Fife are 4 points clear with 2 games to play but with Fife's superior head-to-head, it means that Flyers claim the Northern Ice Hockey League trophy for the 3rd time in 3 years.
Flyers currently are 19-2 in the in NIHL with both defeats coming at the hand of Dundee Stars, one being the recent OT loss at Fife Ice Arena, a result which say Fife lose a 3 year unbeaten run.
Fife Flyers Museum Coming Soon
The forthcoming Fife Flyers museum, which takes the place of the previous Skate of the Art shop in the foyer area of Fife Ice Arena, is coming along nicely. Fife Flyers Commercial Manager, Ronnie Herd, has been working hard to transform the dreary space to turn it into a place that all fans can be proud of, with the opportunity to view all of the past honours won by the UK’s oldest professional ice hockey team. It will also provide fans a glimpse of the Flyers illustrious 70 year history. The museum will be decorated in the traditional blue and yellow colours of the Flyers. More... The annual Fife Flyers jersey auction will soon be live. Final details are being finalised at the moment and once all details have been confirmed the auction will commence. Former Fife Flyer, Neil Abel, is to have a testimonial at Fife Ice Arena on 3rd May 2008. Abel who started his hockey career with his hometown team, Fife Flyers, in the 1980-81 season and continued his career here up to 1991-92, when he joined rivals Sheffield Steelers the following season. Abel who played 360 games with Fife is currently the head coach and continues to play for the Sheffield Scimitars.
Abel began his senior ice hockey career when he was twenty years old with the Fife Flyers in 1980 in the Northern League and the Scottish National League (SNL). Apart from a handful of games he played for the Nottingham Panthers during the 1981–82 season, Abel remained with the Flyers for twelve seasons as they moved into the British Hockey League (BHL) in 1983. During this time he helped the Flyers to the finals of the Autumn Cup in 1984 and 1986 and to win the playoffs in 1985. More about Neil Abel's career.
